Novels & Short Stories

What are the differences between novels and short stories? Aren't they mentioned both about stories except that the latter is short story. Novels are usually long and winding stories with flowery words, metaphors with some hidden meanings. One the other hand, short stories are simple, short, brief with direct meaning. Of course not all short stories are simple and direct. You might need to scratch your head to understand one. Thus, a novel does not mean difficult to explore or a short story seems easy. Give your opinion on the two titles above? Share your point of view.

Short Stories can be quite obscure... It all depends on the style of the writer. For me the novel has more events and sub plots while a short vstory has a limited focus.

As for flowery language... it all depends. We are now moving into the language that is laive today.
