Why do people need to learn English Language? Isn't other languages has its own uniqueness? Or is English language so special that everyone needs to learn or at least able to read and write in the language?
Here are my personal opinions about the importance of the language, the English Language.
A Communicative Language
As we all know English Language is widely spoken all over the globe regardless of skin colours or economic status. Rich or poor country, the language is still needed as a means of communication or in underwriting. A traveler for instance, needs to know the language to travel to other parts of the world. In short it is a communicative language.
A Language of Technology
Computers and other heavy machines that we used in the office or industry are mostly programmed in English language. No doubt a developed country considers the language as a language of technology to meet the current needs of the fast changing world. That is why some countries in the world change their medium of language in learning Science and other subjects related to technology because this is the fastest means to cope with the developed world.
A Researched Language
Scholars and researchers who proceed with their higher learning or doing thesis, their references are mostly in English. Very rare we can find reference books in other languages especially in Asian libraries. Libraries are mostly filled with books written in English Language compare to other languages. That's why it is considered as a researched language.
Other uses
There are many other reasons why English Language is needed by all. A businessman can do his business easily if he knows the language. A company manager, a professor in a university, a minister and a security guard need the language to function as he is assigned. Thus, English Language plays a very important role in human's life.

Reading
"Reading for comprehension is most likely to occur when the students are reading what they want to read, or at least what they see good reason to read" (Eskey 1986:6)
From this quotation I can say that comprehension takes place in reading when there is interest or desire in the reader. A reader who likes to read most likely understand what he reads. Unlike a person who forces himself to read because of exam or assignment, finds it difficult to comprehend. By all means he has to read or else fail the exam or unable to do the assignment.
To teach children reading comprehension, planning interesting activities is needed. A motivated reading material encourages children to read. This promote comprehension in reading.
